Academy of Country Music Awards!

Posted on Mar 29, 2011 | Comments Off

This past summer, two of our Friends- Stephanie and Jimmy, had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Academy of Country Music’s Lifting Lives camp in Nashville. During that camp they got to meet a few country singers, write a song and then perform that song at the Grand Ole Opry. If that wasn’t enough, they (and 23 of the other camp participants) get to go to Las Vegas this weekend to sing the song they wrote with Darius Rucker during the Academy of Country Music Awards!! The last few weeks have been very exciting as...

If you’ve ever stopped by Friends Life on a sunny day, I’m sure you saw a group of our participants playing basketball.  It is the number one most requested activity!  We have not yet had our first big basketball game at the new Friends Life building because we are waiting for our hoop to be fixed and put in the perfect spot for all the future games.   The anticipation and excitement is quite high, so we are glad that March Madness is here to provide a distraction. This afternoon, Jimmy, Aaron, Stephanie and Elizabeth worked...

On Saturday, February19th, a group of high school students from Kentucky and their leaders came to Friends Life to volunteer.  They were given two HUGE tasks to accomplish in only 3 hours and they did a wonderful job.  The first job was to cover up a few murals in the basement in preparation for making it a more work-friendly and age appropriate space.  This building used to house a daycare, and although the murals were wonderful and happy, they weren’t appropriate for our adult Friends.  The painting team did a wonderful job...

It has been a long time in the works, but Friends Life is excited to announce that as of February 14th, 2010 our program has moved to a new location!  It was sweet to celebrate Valentines Day with all of our Friends in the new building.  You can only imagine the excitement as everyone arrived and came up the front steps into our building. Thoughts on our new building from a few of our Friends: “It’s like home everything you walk in the door.  It’s not like a regular building.” “I love it! I think it rocks...

On Friday, December 3rd, the Sports 4 All Foundation held their first formal fundraiser, An Evening 4 All.  It was a beautiful event and we are so proud to announce that one of our own clients, Natalie, was named Sports 4 All’s female spokesperson of the year!  One of Natalie’s favorite days at Friends Life is Tuesday, because it is Project HEALTH day.  She always joyfully participates in the exercises and activities.  Natalie has learned so much about nutrition in the last few months and now loves to talk about the difference...
