Volunteers are vital to the depth and growth of Friends Life. As we continue to grow, the need for more volunteers becomes crucial. The rewards of reaching out to our Friends and others with disabilities are tremendous. By serving, you will experience the joy of helping adults grow and become significant members of our local community.
Friends Life has many different opportunities available for all kinds of volunteers. If you don’t see a volunteer description that fits you, but you would still like to contribute to Friends Life, please call us and we will be more than happy to figure out a way to use your gifts and abilities at our organization.
Use the tabs below to find your place of service in one of our volunteer roles.
Program Volunteer (3-4 hours weekly)
Program volunteers work directly with participants by offering support in completing projects and jobs and accompanying participants and staff on field trips. Program Volunteers serve as mentors, coaches and friends to the program participants.
Program Teacher (2-3 hours weekly/bi-weekly)
The Friends Life program needs volunteers skilled in different subjects (art, dance, construction, sewing, etc) to help teach our participants new and exciting skills during our program hours.
Administrative Volunteers (2-3 hours monthly)
Volunteers are needed in the office in several areas:
- Provide assistance to the Office Manager with large mailings, phone calls, and data entry.
- Recruit volunteers, run background checks on new volunteer applicants, maintain volunteer database including data entry and running reports, making name badges.
- Help update and maintain website and social media networks including Facebook and Twitter. Creative input is welcome.
Bloggers and Photographers
We are always looking for volunteers to help us tell the story of Friends Life. If you have a way with words or a passion for photography, we would love for you to join us in our daily happenings. Your photos and/or your story will be used on our website, social media sites, and other printed materials to help share our vision with others.
Fundraising (annual & special)
Friends Life has an annual fundraiser in June and several other fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Start your own campaign or join the committee of one we already have planned.
Special Events
Friends Life values providing a sense of community to our Friends with disabilities. We strive to create a space where they experience a full life, much like you or I would. Our most popular special event is the annual Sock Hop in the spring, followed by a few special dinners and picnics throughout the year. We are always looking to add more events and can never have enough hands to help plan and decorate!
Grant Writers
Grant writing volunteers help with all parts of the grant process, from researching potential grants, to proofreading and actually putting together the grant proposal. Previous grant writing experience required.
Van Maintenance (2-3 hours weekly)
Friends Life has 2 12-passenger vans that are used regularly and need to be filled with gas, washed, cleaned and maintained to ensure that they are running properly and kept in good condition.
Handyman
Friends Life just moved into a new facility and needs help with “honey-do” lists around the house. From paint touch ups to building shelves the projects are varied, but fairly simple. Experience with carpentry, DIY, and minor home maintenance required.
