Why Giving to Friends Life Matters

Can you imagine what it must feel like to grow up in a world designed for others?

Growing up with special needs is not easy. For the Friends, the amazing adults pictured above, life has been filled with barriers. Thankfully the public education system provides children extra opportunities and support until the age of twenty-two.

But once they no longer qualify for those services, where do they belong?

Options that others often take for granted do not exist for the Friends. Where will they go? How will they get there? Who will hire them? How will they learn the skills they need? Who will be their friend?

Imagine the loss of those opportunities—and the loss of community. It is no wonder that many adults with developmental disabilities feel so alone and unfulfilled.

Now, imagine how the Friends feel when they walk into Friends Life, a place they go every day to build friendships. Where they develop life skills and job skills. A place where they become more confident, more responsible, and more productive.

You provide this place for them when you give generously to Friends Life!

You are giving adults with disabilities a place to belong—where they can get the support and opportunities they require and deserve.

You are creating opportunities for the Friends to develop socially, grow personally, and enjoy community as they experience life together.

Here’s what some of the Friends have to say:

“I have been part of this program since it started, and I have seen dramatic changes in myself. People don’t usually think I can do much, but the staff believes in me. I am a true leader now.”  —Katie

“Helping other people at the garden makes me feel good about Friends Life. This is one of the reasons that I love Friends Life.” —Celia

Your financial support is what makes Friends Life possible. Without your generosity, the Friends would not get the programs they require to grow and thrive.

With the end of the year in sight, we have a goal of raising an additional $100,000 to cover the costs of these important programs.

As we enter this season of giving, would you consider making a gift $100, $500, $1000, or more?

Your gift makes a real impact:

$100 provides a day of programs for a Friend.
$500 provides a week of programs for a Friend.
$1000 provides two weeks of programs for a Friend.

Thank you for considering a gift to Friends Life.

Your generosity enables these vital programs to continue. You are giving the Friends a place to develop friendships and learn valuable skills.

You are driving the Friends to volunteer in their community. You are cheering for them as they try something they’ve never done before. You are handing them the paintbrush to finish artwork that will be featured in the art show. You are teaching them how to cook healthy meals for themselves. You are providing a safe environment for them.

Most of all, you are giving them a place to belong.
