Among Friends is a visual expression of the relationships between the artists (the “Friends”) at Friends Life Community (FLC) and the ways in which they experience the world around them, including the work of other artists.
The Friends’ works are comparable to those of well-known artists, a reality that connects every being to a common artistic community. It is within community that the Friends broaden their possibilities, break through barriers, and rise above stigmas. Their art is an embodiment of their personalities and serves as a way to gain an understanding of themselves and one another. These threads of relationship also connect them to artists from both the past and current art world as they take inspiration from those who inspire them to live their dreams. Connections drawn between themselves and other artists make it clear that the work of FLC artists has its own place in the art world and the larger landscape that is contemporary art today. Their voices are important and necessary. The act of making is empowering for artists at FLC and seeing their art out in the world allows them to tell their stories.
